Alma Orozco

Alma is a proud first-generation, DACA, Queer, Latina Student whose identity has kept her firmly rooted in achieving her goals and passions. Growing up as an undocumented individual and experiencing the hardships of living in underserved communities, Alma decided she wanted to serve her community.

At 21, Alma Orozco was promoted to General Manager of a McDonald’s restaurant and its 90 plus employees. By 24, she was again promoted, this time to an Operational Technical Person and a Welcome Lead for 25 McDonald’s restaurants. Many of the people Alma managed belonged to the immigrant community, and although she created great relationships with them, working with a for-profit organization limited her ability to serve her community.

In 2022, Alma became the Operations Manager at Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition where she continues to fight for human rights regardless of legal status. Though she works full-time, she envisioned continuing her academic interests in women and gender studies. Hence, she returned to the Community College of Aurora to continue her academics and is currently excelling with a 3.43 GPA.

Once she finishes her community college degree, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Women and Gender Studies, and use the framework provided by that education to help herself, her community, and youth to heal from generational trauma.
