Andre Watson is a 26-year-old student at Eugenio María de Hostos Community College of the City University of New York. Andre is a native New Yorker who was born in Brooklyn, New York City. Although not born from money or wealth, Andre’s family has always stressed love and education. Growing up, he moved around often; he lived in every New York City borough except Manhattan. Every time he moved, he met a variety of new people with different experiences. As a young teenager, Andre was bullied for being “a bit different” as he would explain to others when they would whether he is gay. Andre used to feel himself sink into his seat every time he heard someone say, “can I ask you something?” At 16, he decided to no longer hide and came out of the closet to his family who accepted him and supported his sexuality. Since then, Andre always stood up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Andre adopted gay children. He likes to think that his experiences have shaped him into the compassionate intellect his is today. Andre is studying criminal justice with plans to pursue a degree in social justice and law. He plans to apply his degrees to work and help the LGBTQ people with the disparities and inequality issues within the community.
